Ekweremadu lost the deputy senate president's seat to Omo-Agege in 8th senate

The new (8th Senate) Deputy Senate president is senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the senator from the Delta Central Senatorial District. 68 votes went the way of Senator Omo-Agege who was nominated by Ahmed Senator Baba Kaita of Katsina North and Senator Abdulahi Aliyu of Niger North. The remaining 39 votes went to Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP - nominated by Senator Chukwuka Utazi of  Enugu North and Senator Rose Oko of Cross River North. Making it a total of 107 votes.
